Book Review: The Law of Divine Compensation by Marianne Williamson

The Law of Divine Compensation found its way into my hands when I had let my otherwise strong spiritual foundation get a bit lost in the grind of everyday life. At the time, I was

busy launching a business and found myself caught up in very practical entrepreneurial matters, pushing and forcing things in an effort to meet looming deadlines. I had purchased the book a few days earlier at a conference, being a fan of Williamson’s work and also partly seduced by it’s unusual, esoteric cover.

Eventually I hit a wall with my efforts to move the project forward, and in a moment of frustration, I sought refuge in the pages of the little blue book, which was teetering precariously on the edge of a shelf in my room, almost throwing itself at me to be read.

It was a sign from the universe if you will, no doubt, for in the first few pages of The Law of Divine Compensation, I had been given the precise wisdom and guidance I needed—let go, accept what is, and surrender to the flow. Trust that all is unfolding to a higher plan and that as long as you are acting in integrity and love, all will be taken care of. In that moment, the stress and frustrations of the past few weeks evaporated, and I found myself laughing on the verge of tears, with gratitude and joy for the ‘spiritual recalibration’ I had just received.

And that is precisely the beauty of this book. It is written in such a way that no matter where you find yourself in life, it speaks to you with a deeply spiritual, yet grounded wisdom that is always profoundly relevant to the very situation you are facing at any given moment—be it one of joy or challenge.

Although it can most certainly be read linearly, I find it more akin to a modern day pocket version of the I Ching—just flip to a random page and you will find an answer to your question. And not just any answer, but one that comes from a place of unconditional love, which, if that is your motivation for doing anything, then you certainly can’t go wrong.
